What is RCFE Adminsitrator certification?
- RCFE Administrator Certification Training is a California Department of Social Services (DSS)-approved program designed for individuals seeking to manage or operate a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE) in California. The course includes 80 hours of required training, consisting of 60 hours of livestream classes and 20 online hours. Participants gain the knowledge and skills needed to comply with state regulations, manage daily facility operations, and provide high-quality care within licensed RCFE communities.
How long does RCFE Administrator certification take?
The RCFE Administrator certification training consists of 60 hours of livestream classes and 20 online hours for a total of 80 hours. Most learners finish within two to three weeks.
Is this certification approved in California?
Yes. RCFE Administrator certification courses offered by Assisted Living Education are approved by the California Department of Social Services.
What are the prerequisites?
To enroll in RCFE Administrator certification, applicants must be at least 21 years old and meet California Department of Social Services background clearance and licensing eligibility requirements, including Live Scan fingerprinting. They must complete a state-approved RCFE Administrator training program and pass the state certification exam. Ongoing compliance and continuing education are required to maintain certification.
Format and Logistics
Online vs. livestream training. What is the difference?
Online training is self-paced. Livestream training follows scheduled Zoom sessions with an instructor. Both formats offer the same approved credit to meet California DSS certification requirements.
When do I receive my certificate?
- Students will receive one certificate of completion for all 80 hours of training which includes the 60 hours of livestream classes and 20 online hours within 2-3 working days of completing the class. If online hours are completed after the livestream classes, students must email admin@assistedlivingeducation.com to request the certificate.
How long do I have course access?
You receive 120 days of course access after enrollment for the RCFE Certification Training. This timeframe allows most learners to complete training comfortably, even while balancing work and personal responsibilities.
Cost and Payment
How much does RCFE Administrator certification training cost?
The cost of the RCFE Administrator certification training is $599 and includes full 80 hour RCFE certification training, Free 200-question RCFE Test Preparation course (a $50 value), Digital course workbook, free online access to the California Title 22 regulations, immediate access to start the 20 online hours upon enrollment.

Can my employer pay for training?
Yes. Many employers cover training costs as part of professional development or onboarding. You may check with your employer about reimbursement or direct payment options.
CEUs and Renewal
How many CEUs are required for renewal?
RCFE Administrators must complete 40 continuing education unit hours (CEU) every two years to renew their certification in California. Assisted Living Education offers an RCFE CEU Class with 20 hours of livestream classes taken over two days (10 hours per day) and 20 online classes taken at your convenience within 90 days of sign-up.
Can CEUs be completed online?
Yes. RCFE continuing education units (CEUs) may be completed online; however, at least 20 of the required 40 hours must be completed through live instruction (live via Zoom). The remaining hours may be completed through approved self-paced online courses.
When should I start renewal training?
You should begin RCFE renewal training 60 to 90 days before your license expiration date.
